Once in a while, you come accross a product that’s really special. Something that just stops you in your tracks and makes you say ‘wow’. This is how we felt the first time we saw the Guitar Hanger from Design Jazz. Although clearly a super practical idea for the music enthusiasts, imagine a product that (when you add your guitar!) can create a feature wall in your house or music studio.

We love it! And that’s all we have to say. For more pictures and details about this piece, click below.
The benefits of honey go waaay beyond it’s super sweet taste! Not content with just satisying your palate, honey also offers incredible antiseptic, antioxidant and cleansing properties for our body. Honey is a hot beauty favourite! This liquid gold is a key component in many of our over the counter beauty favourites. So before shelling out hundreds on those miracle anti-ageing products, stop and remember the humble honeybee.
This is one of our favourite products. It’s got everything! Manuka Honey & Beeswax Soap by Dr. K.

We’ve had a very exciting week altogether at The Design Basket! Tuesday was spend on a road trip filming with RTE’s Nationwide for an upcoming programme in which The Design Basket will be featured. We kicked off the day in Dublin at Jennifer Slattery’s studio where she showed us her fabulous designs and design process. Next stop, County Meath to visit The Handmade Soap Company. We got to check out the factory and even came away with a goodybag of soaps! Last stop on our adventure was to visit The Design Basket’s office in Dundalk where the crew interviewed Sarah Jane Lynch about the company and the success to date. We captured the day in pictures which we posted on our Facebook Page which you can check out here! Totally pooped by the end of the day! We’re eagerly awaiting news as to when the episode will be aired so watch this space!

What a great competition Arnotts ran recently to uncover the hot new textile designers in Ireland. Charged with the task of designing a silk scarf, the candidates rose to the challenge and the results have rekindled our love affair with this key accessory! The 3 winners, Erin McClure, Pamela Quinn and Niamh McCarthy, released their limited edition collections in Arnotts earlier this month, and no doubt they have flown off the shelves! We’ve been championing this accessory for some time now, and one of our favourites is the limited edition ‘Silk Painted Cottage Daisy Scarf’, a stunning creation by one of our Donegal based designers -€50.

One of our favourite designers at TheDesignBasket.com has got to be Kelly Hood for the fabulous range of bovine beauties that she has brought into our lives!! For those of us who have grown up in Ireland (particularly the countryside), we encounter these creatures on a daily basis…..indeed my schoolbus regularly trailed behind a herd of cattle moseying along on their way to a neighbouring field. Kelly’s range of artwork brings a wonderfully fun element to these very familiar creatures. This one is aptly titled ‘Peek a Moo’!

It was big at NY fashion week and it’s set to continue well into the fall - it’s Gold fever!! They are many ways to incorporate this metallic trend but for a subtle nod, incorporate in your jewellery and fashion accessories. Never to fall behind the latest looks, our range of Irish designers are packing some punches when it comes to this look. One of our favourites is Melissa Curry who has several showstopping pieces in her 2012 collection that pay homage to this key style.

We’re potty about Pinterest. It’s the kind of site that you pop on to have a browse and emerge 2 hours later, goggle eyed and with a wishlist the length of your arm!! Nonetheless, in our crucade to spread the love of contemporary Irish design, we’ve set up our own Pinterest group and we’re pinning like billy-o! Check it out here!
Check out our blog contribution to Enterprise Ireland’s Retailer Forum! We put together an article on what The Design Basket is all about.
This month, we were delighted to catch up with Joanne Gamble, the Donegal designer behind Joga Jewellery. Inspired by Inishowen, the rugged coastline & the Irish sea, Joanne Gamble creates an Irish jewellery collection with a contemporary twist. Read the interview here!
